Each SMP training course takes you through some basics — you will learn about identifying hair loss and scalp anatomy. Each level will take you through SMP tools and equipment, hygiene, health and safety considerations, and colour theory and pigment selection. Following this, you will learn specialised SMP techniques depending on the level of the course and your specialisation. At the end of each course, you will discuss client consultation and aftercare tips with Georgia.
You will have access to all specialised equipment. If needed, we can help you purchase an SMP kit from us.
Available SMP Training Courses
Our scalp micropigmentation training courses typically range from 1 to 4 days, depending on the program selected. We offer flexible training schedules and can travel for training to meet your needs. Get in touch with our team to discuss your training goals.
Our intensive 3-day fundamental scalp micropigmentation course is designed to provide you with comprehensive, hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of scalp micropigmentation. Laying the foundation to your artistry, this training package teaches you the basics of performing SMP in a one-on-one setting.
For added convenience, we can travel directly to your location for the duration of the intensive 3-day program; please get in touch to discuss additional travel fees.
Your tuition fee also covers the rent of an SMP machine during the course; after completion, you will receive a one-on-one shadow day with our trainer within six months. We will ensure you have a solid grasp on all concepts you’ve learned in your time with us, and can apply your knowledge effectively.
- Day 1: Dive into the fundamentals of the scalp, hair loss causes and types, micropigmentation, colour, technique, health and safety, and hands-on practice with fake skin, melons, and other props.
- Day 2 & 3: These days are geared toward practice and application, which involves hands-on, supervised work on live models experiencing various types of hair loss.
- Shadow Day: This includes a one-on-one observational day with Georgia (date to be selected).

This specialised training is perfect for those who have already taken the Fundamental SMP training course. With our masterclass, you will take your skills to the next level. We give you the tools you need to gain a comprehensive understanding of SMP procedures and techniques so that by the time our session ends, you’ll be able to perform to the standard of a master practitioner and provide your clients with a natural look.
With this intimate one-on-one setting, you can ask all of your SMP-related questions on the spot.
We understand that life can be hectic, so we offer flexible scheduling for these courses with 30 days advance notice.
What You Need to Know:
For advanced SMP and permanent makeup artists, prior experience with working on live skin and using professional tattoo equipment is essential. Therefore, a certificate from a foundation training program must be provided as proof of prior experience to be eligible. Additionally, the regulations for this type of work vary by state; in Queensland, a Blood Borne Pathogens Certification is required.
We require proof of previous foundation training or shadowing/mentoring experience from an accredited program to register for this course.
Alongside the many exciting aspects of this course, our treatments will involve practising on actual clients. Therefore, we encourage you to bring one of your own clients to use during the course. However, if you need someone available to serve as a model, please let us know in advance so that we can provide an alternative solution.
Practising on a real-life model will give you the practical application skills you need, and will help you master the dexterity needed when working with clients.

How It Works:
At Hair Ink, we offer training courses for those looking to become an SMP artist and we want to support our clients by helping others look and feel their best. Using a temporary pigment that fades within a few days, our trainees will bring their skills and knowledge to life.
Our model call begins at 12 pm and usually goes on until 4 pm. During these four hours, we will be teaching our trainee the necessary skills and techniques to become proficient in SMP. Temporary pigments will be used during this time – this allows our artists to experiment and perfect their work without making permanent decisions. From there, you will be booked with our head technician Georgia who will complete your entire treatment.

What Type Of Equipment Is Included In The SMP Kit?
Your SMP practice kit would include notebooks, pens, fake skin, pigment samples, and needle samples. The SMP machine is not included, but it can be purchased separately.
